I'm currently at Kadena AB in Okinawa, Japan. I'm enjoying my life in the Air Force. I am creating this Blog for all my friends and family and of course all my fellow 20 somethings in the MilitaryJenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10551432325846188730noreply@blogger.comBlogger24125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5838754874866523539.post-10078492427427990032011-06-21T06:46:00.000-05:002011-06-21T06:46:58.856-05:00It's been awhileHey everyone,
Boy has it been awhile since I have last been on here. I'm not very good about this blogging thing. Anyways. I have a few excuses, I was deployed to Afghanistan for a little over 6 months and in training before that, I'm a part time Nursing Student pursing my degree and Commission in the Air Force and I'm getting ready to make the big move across the ocean back to America. I will be PCSing to Buckley AFB. I'm so excited about this move. I'm so ready to be living back in America. I will also be finishing up the rest of the classes I need to apply to the Commissioning Programs. This is going to be a big chapter in my life and I'm very much looking forward to it.

Well just wanted to let people know that I'm still here and plan on being more active on this blog then I have been.

Cheers.Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10551432325846188730noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5838754874866523539.post-54121194710422430792010-01-27T05:42:00.002-06:002010-03-15T05:21:44.098-05:00From a Retired Air Force CMSgtToday I sat in a meeting with the rest of my office. We had the privilege to meet with our Chief of Operations Mr. Gentz a retired Air Force CMSgt. He is the Boss of all my Boss's. He is a big deal around here. I have met with him on several occasions for work related things. Let me tell you he is one of the greatest speakers I have ever listened too. But today really did it for me. He shared with us some inspiring and motivating information. Now I would like to share it with my reader's out there and pass on the inspiration and motivation.

Own your name and take care of your name, Have pride in what you do, your name is on it.

3 Pea's in a Pod

1) Persistant
2) Perseverance
3) Passion

These 3 things are key to achieving your goals which achieve your dreams.

1) Make success a choice when you wake up.

2) Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity.

5 Keys to Have

1) Staffing- Win this thing together

2) Training- Take advantage of OJT, and other training available to you, never pass it away

3) Planning- Dreams are where we end up, goals are how we got there.

4) Atitude- Stress is your enemy. Pressure is your alliance.

5) Teamwork- A team always beats an individual. As Mr. Gentz put it, you can have the best basketball player in the world but with out teamwork you will never win the title's.

These are just the few key things I picked up today. I hope you find this as useful as I have already. Today after this my brain was really cranking thinking about how I could use these key things to help me become a better Human and Team Player.

Today I received final approval for ACE's Fundraiser Event to raise money for the American Red Cross Relief Fund for Haiti!

I was home on the friday night after the earthquake had happened, and experienced a 5.3 Earthquake for the first time here on Okinawa. Then I thought to myself after being a little frightened that this could be us. I put myself in the Haitian people's shoes, and being on a small island realized that we would be asking and praying for help from surrounding countries just like they have been. And would rely on outside help to get through such a devastation. So I then realized that we could do something amazing and help and support the Island Nation of Haiti from the other side of the World. So over the weekend I came up with a plan and mission and named it Operation Open Wings. I knew that it would be impossible for me to do this myself and that I was going to need to put a team together to achieve the mission.

So first thing Monday morning last week I brought it to my ACE (Airman Committed to Excellence) Executives to see if we could sponsor this Operation. Well they gave it go. Since then I have been teaming up with Private Organizations around Team Kadena including Operation Warm heart who is our co-sponor, Top 3, Chiefs Club, CGOC, 5/6 Club, Red Cross and a few others. As a TEAM we are working together to put on some fundraising events. Our big one is going to be a 5k Run, 5 Feb 2010. Meet in front of Risner Gym. Registration will begin at 0615 and the run will start at 0700. To run there will be a $5 minimum donation.

We have set a goal of raising 10k. To do this we are going to need a minimum of 2000 runners! Some people have said that's a little high. And some people reading this will think the same but it's not. We have 20,000+ people on Kadena Air Base and we are asking for 2000 runners. So this can be done and we are going to work hard to see that it gets done.

We are asking for support from Commanders to encourage their people to come out for Friday morning P.T and participate in a good cause and help raise money for the American Red Cross to give to the unfortunate victims of Haiti.
I'm lost for words really. Most People Civilians wouldn't understand what I'm about to say but I'm a little excited. Not excited b/c I'm going to fight a war but excited because this will be a big learning experience for me. I serve my country everyday doing my everyday job in the military but now I will be able to serve my country by helping with the war effort and being part of a team to help accomplish an overall mission.

I feel our Country has once again fallen apart. In my opinion I wonder if the big decision makers in D.C remember why we went over there in the first place. It seems like this is going to be a never ending war because their really isn't any end game plan yet. But I hold faith in the system that they are working on a plan.

If your out there reading this, I would like you to do one simple task. If you see somebody in uniform go up to them and shake their hand. It might sound like nothing but it means a lot. Also take the time to really think about what the Military is doing over there. It's not all bad. A lot of good stuff is going on as well. When watching the news pay attention to the positive details or go online to your local Military website and read some of the stories of the war effort. I truly believe it will surprise you.
Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10551432325846188730noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5838754874866523539.post-4626901683477524782009-12-22T07:04:00.007-06:002009-12-22T08:24:46.371-06:00I'm Back
I know it's been some time since I have blogged but life has kept me busy in these last few months.

In the last 4 months I have:

PCS to Kadena AB in Okinawa, Japan

Moved and set up a new home

Got settled into a new work environment with new people.

Enrolled and completed 2 College Courses one at UF (Go Gators) and one at UMUC here on the island.

Became a member of ACE and have volunteered for a few ACE events

Was a CFC key personnel

Volunteered for numerous squadron activities

Working on getting my husband transferred from the National Guard to AF Active Duty (which we are still working on, see post below)

Last but not least I'm up for BTZ this month, So for almost the last 2 years I have been making sure I'm being the best Airman I can be and utilizing the core values so I can win BTZ (for all you civilians, BTZ- Below the Zone, pretty much means you put on E-4 on 6 months early)

So yes I have been slacking on blogging and those were my 9 excuses.

I'm still getting adjusted to living in another country. It's hard being here without my husband by my side. There is so much I want to do but I don't want to do it without him. On the brighter side when he does finally get here their will be lots to do. This island in filled with adventures upon adventures. If anyone ever comes up to me and tells me they are bored I will laugh at them. It is impossible to get bored here.

The Okinawans are wonderful people. Anywhere you go you always receive the warmest welcomes. They will go out of their way to help you find anything and they absolutely love it when you try to speak the language. (btw: the language is only as hard as you make it) I have picked up a few phrase and I'm planning on taking a class to further my Japanese communication skills.

Here are a few pictures from the last 4 months which include the 18 CE Combat Dining and a few others.

Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10551432325846188730noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5838754874866523539.post-56708305758297590092009-09-21T08:20:00.001-05:002009-09-21T08:21:56.741-05:00AfghanistanThis is a very true article and everyone should read this. I received orders to Kadena AB a few months ago and will be heading there in a few weeks. Anybody in the military can understand what a busy time this is for me. As well as receiving orders, I married my love, my best friend and my soul mate Aron. Aron in in the National Guard and for the last few months we have been contacting all of our sources so Aron can come with me to Japan. He was supposed to deploy but with his deployment and training this summer that will keep us apart for about 2 years. Any with our marriage so new that makes it tougher. But we are swinging until we hit the ground and we are supposed to know something pretty soon, so keep your fingers crossed.

Blogging in the Air force world is starting to grow. I was approhed by public affairs here at whiteman a few weeks ago and they are very interested in getting a blog started for the base. I think it would be great in my personal opinon. It's the new way of commiuncating to the public at least with the younger generation. I think eventually they could grow with a blog and maybe discontuiue the newspaper. But this is a touchy subject. some people are not ready to get rid of the newspaper. Yes the newspaper is a classic way of learning current events, but the base paper is maybe 5 to 10 pages long and takes about 5 minutes to read. Really who actually reads the paper every friday when it comes out. I'm not sure how many they actually print but I'm sure it's to many. To me I think it is a waste of time and money that could be used in other areas that would benefit the public affairs better. But that's just my opinon.

I hope to keep up more with my blog especially when i pcs to Kadena. I'm sure I will have plenty of interesting things to write about there.

p.s. any opinons on bases blogging?Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10551432325846188730noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5838754874866523539.post-73309107900866226792009-04-12T18:20:00.015-05:002009-04-26T20:12:25.238-05:00The Royals Home Opener 2009
Friday April 10th, 20 Air Force members from Whiteman were selected to hold the American Flag on the Field of Kauffman Stadium home of the Kansas City Royals. Well I was one of those members! Friday was the Royals Home Opener, but it was any ordinary home opener. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the KC Royals. So the folks at the Stadium put a wonderful pre-game show together. Which took some practice.

On Wednesday we all met at the Stadium in KC to have a dress rehearsal. A 4 hour practice!!! Well it was worth it. It was actually fun. There was a lot of waiting so in the mean time I took pictures. We got see a preview of the video they put together for the show. We were the first public eyes to watch it because it was a big secret!

Well I anxiously waited for Friday to come along as I was really excited to feel the rush of being on the field and hear the thousands of fans in the stands. My friend Carlin and I met up early and joined the many tailgaters in the parking lot. When I mean early I mean early. We were there around 1130am. (we had to be there by 1400.) We walked around and enjoyed the smell of the barbeque's going. We eventually made it into the stadium and walked around and around and around. We made it down to the dugouts were we got to watch practice.

Last year I was at a game and caught a foul ball. Well I brought this ball back with me and I'm sure glad I did. I got three autographs from the royals. Which included Miguel Olivo catcher, Alex Gordon infielder, and Trey Hillman manager of the Royals. I do have to say I am a big Yankee fan but unlike the yankees the royals were right there for autographs. Damm those Yankee's who make to much money and think they are to good for autographs (Had to get that out)

Well it was time to meet up in the tunnel with the other AF people to get ready for the show. Well I was debating whether or not I was going to do it since I already try to live green the best way I can.. But then I came across this website when I was trying to find a used book for my upcoming class. It's called Better World Books. Here is what the Online Book store with a soul has to say:

Better World Books collects and sells books online to fund literacy initiatives worldwide.
With more than two million new and used titles in stock, we’re a self-sustaining, triple-bottom-line company that creates social, economic and environmental value for all our stakeholders.

They help raise money for Global Literacy. Also they save books from landfills. By doing this they are being green as well. They are recycling books so when a reader is done with there book they can sell it and then another person can buy it instead of buying a new book. Which saves trees from getting cut down. Not only does it benefit the earth but it benefits the seller and buyer. The seller can make money to buy a new book while the buyer saves a great deal of money from buying a used book. This last purchase I made saved me $144. I bought my College Algebra book for $8 people! It was in great shape too.

So check it out and do your part in saving the Earth.

Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10551432325846188730noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5838754874866523539.post-8443832458737133442009-03-29T18:44:00.005-05:002009-03-29T19:27:56.614-05:00One YearFebruary 13th was one year being Active Duty in the Air Force and one year since I left for basic training. So much has happened since then and I am well on my way to a successful career in the Air Force and each day getting closer to the day I get my Commission.

The picture to the left was taken the weekend I graduated basic. The picture to the right was graduating Tech School.

Here is a short slide show. The 1st pic was taken the weekend of bmt graduation. 2nd pic was graduation tech school. 3rd pic was taken at my promotion event at whiteman when I first arrived and the 4th pic was taken a few months ago on a Honor Guard Detail.

Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10551432325846188730noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5838754874866523539.post-80285472692651444352009-03-29T11:51:00.012-05:002009-03-29T17:45:22.059-05:00Silver FlagHello everyone. I know I have not been good about keeping this blog up to date. But I'm going to get this blog going again.

So as you can see my last entry was about going to Silver Flag training. Between the dates of 7 February and 14 February I went to Tyndall AFB to do some CE Prime BEEF training (It's pretty much warfare training for CE). Most CE troops play it off like it's nothing mostly because they have gone through the training before. But me being a new airman and my first time here I loved it. I learned more then I had ever thought I would and gained experience in other areas I was familiar with. The cadres put me in some leadership positions which taught me how to be a leader in some stressful environments. For the most part I came home with more knowledge then I had expected to and shocked everyone when I told them I had a great time.

When we were there we had to sleep in tents on cots for the week. Which wasn't bad at all. We also had to eat MRE's, they are the military ready to eat meals loaded with calories and vacuumed sealed food but if your lucky you might get a pack of m&m's or skittles. We were not allowed to leave the camp while we were there until the last day. Which happened to be Friday night. So when we were released a few of us met up with an old friend from Whiteman who moved to Tyndall a few months ago. He took us to the old town Panama City called St. Andrews. We eat on the rooftop of Uncle Ernie's. Let's just say we feasted on seafood and Martini's. I strongly recommend this restaurant it was excellent.

I put this slide show of pictures I took while I was there.

Here are a few very cool videos I took I think you will enjoy them.

This is the day we bombed the runway. The First African-American was sworn into Presidency, The Honorable Barack Obama Commander and Chief, I am so proudly to say. He gives us hope for this Country and a Positive outlook on things. Right now I am watching the on going events as I write this. Wishing I was in D.C to celebrate.

As I listened this morning to the first speech from the our new President I regained hope for the Country. President Obama says, "Putting off unpleasant decisions has surely passed, we need to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off and begin rebuilding America." I think this is very true. We need to stop complaining and dwelling on the negative things and start focusing on what we can do as a country to fix the problems we have created. We need to Focus on the Economy and the Military and what it going to happen with the War. As a Active Military member I will be looking forward to President Obama's plans with the military and the war. Today is a day of celebrating for the Obama family. Tomorrow is the day work begins for the New President and the Country.Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10551432325846188730noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5838754874866523539.post-46325843707925014662009-01-19T15:02:00.006-06:002009-01-19T15:22:14.193-06:00The Guy who Dances on the InternetSo this guy Matt Harding, travels all over the world and is recorded dancing in the places he goes too. It's pretty cool actually. Stride Gum, sponsors him now. Man I wish I could travel all over the world for just a little dorky dance! Anyways Stride Gum sponsored his trip to 39 countries in all 7 continents in 2006 for 6 months. Then again in 2007 and 2008 so for 14 months he traveled to 42 countries and was recorded dancing. Here is the result.

Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10551432325846188730noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5838754874866523539.post-71859569577759563082009-01-19T10:53:00.006-06:002009-01-19T11:30:58.292-06:00I Have a DreamAs Martin Luther King says,

"I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream. Who would have ever thought back then that there would this day.

I think we as a country have a long ways to go. And maybe not just as a country but as world. As he states at the end of his speech, "When we let freedom ring." People need to be aware of the worlds problems and what they can do to help. If everyone would stop and think about someone else besides themselves, for once (not saying that people don't) but if they did look at how much we could accomplish in today's society. Why does war always have to be the answer, that really doesn't solve anything (yes i am in the military and it is job security for me but it doesn't mean I'm all for it.) If you just take the time and read part of his speech i posted, maybe you can learn a little and apply one of his dreams to your life.

Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10551432325846188730noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5838754874866523539.post-38014000509081785062009-01-18T17:16:00.003-06:002009-01-18T18:08:13.910-06:00Gran TorinoThis movie was great. I laughed and cried throughout the movie. It reminded me so much of Ken (non-biological) grandpa. It was almost textbook alike.
It was a good story about learning about life and death. And the meaning of it. Clint Eastwood stars as Walt Kowalski, a crusty old Korean War veteran whose neighbourhood has been overtaken by, what he so affectionately calls, zipperheads and gooks. Kowalski's anger does not begin and end with the Chinese people in his neighbourhood. He hates his two sons. He doesn't seem to like his priest. He certainly doesn't like his grandchildren. And I'm pretty convinced he wasn't too fond of Walt Kowalski either.

But with all that being said, good ol' Walt did have an affinity for beer, guns, his barber, his dog and of course his 1972 Gran Torino.

I don't want to give to much away. But I would strongly recommend this movie.

Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10551432325846188730noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5838754874866523539.post-39955339910628380702009-01-17T15:02:00.002-06:002009-01-17T15:29:01.433-06:00AF Reading ListEach year the Air Force comes out with a recommended reading list. This years reading list includes 12 books. This year's reading list is organized into three areas: 1) Military History; 2) Mission, Doctrine, Profession; and 3) Our Nation and Our World. Here are 3 books that General Schwartz highlights.

The first book speaks to our Military History. American Patriot: The Life and Wars of Colonel Bud Day, by Robert Coram, details the life of a heroic man in the United States Air Force. Coram's superb biography of the most decorated living American veteran begins with Bud Day's childhood and follows him through joining the Air Force, marrying his high school sweetheart, and flying demanding missions in Vietnam. It is a truly remarkable story of a great Airman and Medal of Honor recipient.

The second book, Modern Strategy by Colin S. Gray, makes sense of the strategic history of the 20th Century and what this implies for the 21st Century. Gray recently wrote a thought-provoking Strategic Studies Quarterly article about Airpower and Irregular Warfare, and this book is an excellent backdrop for better understanding the demands on our Air Force.

The third book for this quarter is Beating Goliath: Why Insurgencies Win, by Jeffrey Record. This book examines the phenomenon of victories by the weak over the strong, and more specifically, insurgencies that succeeded against great powers. Mr. Record reviews eleven insurgent wars from 1775 to the present and suggests why the seemingly weaker side won. He concludes that external assistance correlates more consistently with insurgent success than any other explanation.

Mission, Doctrine, Profession

Counterinsurgency Warfare: Theory and Practice - David Galula
Twenty-First-Century Strategy: An Introduction to the Modern National Security Processes and Problems - Dennis M. Drew and Donald M. Snow
Modern Strategy - by Colin S. Gray
Thinking about America's Defense: An Analytical Memoir - Glenn A. Kent

Our Nation and World

Afghanistan: A Short History of its People and Politics - Martin Ewans
Beating Goliath: Why Insurgencies Win - Jeffrey Record
Contemporary Nuclear Debates: Missile Defense, Arms Control, and Arms Races in the Twenty-First Century - Alexander Lennon
Not a Good Day to Die: The Untold Story of Operation Anaconda - Sean Naylor

Military History

American Patriot: The Life and Wars of Colonel Bud Day - Robert Coram
Fast Tanks and Heavy Bombers: Innovation in the U.S. Army, 1917-1945 - David E. Johnson
One Day Too Long: Top Secret Site 85 and the Bombing of North Vietnam - Timothy Castle
The Savage Wars of Peace: Small Wars and the Rise of American Power - Max Boot

Happy Reading.Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10551432325846188730noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5838754874866523539.post-90394534063976552842008-12-23T20:17:00.019-06:002008-12-23T20:58:07.703-06:00CE Christmas PartySo a week and a half ago are CE squadron had are annual Christmas party in are High Bay. It's a funny story actually. I was trying to get my picture with him so I went to the other side and squeezed my way into a group of guys who were also trying to get his attention. So I yell "Hey Mikey!" " Can I get a picture?" He completely turns around and comes over and takes a picture with me. As the guys are telling me that's only because I'm a female in the military. And I said " Yep pretty lucky" and they were like "Must be nice." and I said "Yep it is," and left lol.

So it was pretty crowded there and I needed to get back to work. She is in the 6th grade. Her Dad is deployed to Korea and her Mom works 2 jobs and she has 7 brothers and sister and all of them are adopted but her. Plus did I mention her parents are going through a divorce? That must be a lot for a little 11 year old. I met her back in September. She is a very smart girl but didn't have much motivation to do her work. Well she has come pretty far in these last few months. She still skips out on her homework sometimes but I try to give her some motivation to do it and tell how important it is to do well in school. I know when I was a kid I didn't want to hear that either but now I realize how important it was for my future. If I could go back I would do every homework assignment and would have studied a lot harder. I think it is very important to get through to these kids and show them how important school is.

Well today we worked on her power point. (When did 6th graders start doing power points?) Her project was on King Tutankhamun. For all you history buff's out there here is some interesting information on King Tut.

King Tut was a pharaoh in the 18th dynasty of ancient Egypt. He became the next King after Akenhaten at the age of nine. Because of his youth and inexperience, Commander Aye, who was his uncle as well as his private advisor, actually made the important decisions for him. One of the decisions Aye made was to return polytheism to Egypt. Polytheism is basically the belief in gods and goddesses. The cults of the god, Amen, as well as others, were revived.
Because of this change, King Tut, whose full name was actually Tutankhaten, changed his name to Tutankhamen. While his name had meant, "living image of Aten", his new name meant "living image of Amen." King Tut's short rule ended just nine years later, when he was just eighteen years old. The cause of his death is still questioned today, but it is assumed that he was murdered because he died from a blow to the skull. when King Tut died, his body was immediately, preserved by a method of embalming, and then it was mummified. King Tut's mummy was placed inside three coffins, one smaller than the next; the smallest coffin was made of solid gold. The outer two coffins were constructed of wooden frames with gold hammered over them. The coffins were finally placed inside a stone sarcophagus. The Golden Death Mask was placed over the boy's head, and valuables were place on the mummified body as well as inside the wrappings. The other rooms of the tomb were filled with the Golden Throne, a wooden war chest, furniture, a chariot, weapons, and other things that the Egyptians thought King Tut would need in his after life. The tomb was then sealed for protection, especially from robbers.

Mentoring is my way to give back to the community. And it gives a chance for these kids to look up to us Airman. They like us to wear are uniform's because it Set's a positive image for the kids.
Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10551432325846188730noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5838754874866523539.post-35213491937517844122008-11-30T19:41:00.009-06:002008-11-30T20:15:44.758-06:00When the Weather is bad, Stay in and enjoy some good Company
So Saturday was a blast. I went to the mall in Overland Park, KS. This place is huge. I don't get many chances to come here. Mostly because I am a Airman in the AF and we don't make a lot of money at all. Plus I'm trying to save up for Christmas. So when I go I give my self an allowance to spend. This time it was only $100! Which really isn't a lot but I managed. I had been wanting this Black long pea coat, but I was waiting for it to go on sale. Usually it's $125 or so and today I got it for $58 bucks. Now that's what I call a deal. Then as I was looking around I found this dress I had been wanting. It is a black knit dress. I had been kind of looking for one for awhile but hadn't find the perfect one that would go with my suede boots. Well there it was my size waiting for me to find it. Plus that was on sale for $30. I bought some grey tights to wear with it. So I stayed within my shopping budget and left a very happy woman. Oh and got to eat at the Rain Forest Cafe, which is always a fun place to eat at.
Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10551432325846188730noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5838754874866523539.post-53372286487197365412008-11-27T13:48:00.003-06:002008-11-27T23:53:32.556-06:00Thanksgiving and a new journeyToday is Thanksgiving. But it's not just Thanksgiving for me but it's one year signing my enlistment papers for the U.S Air Force. I have a lot to be thankful for this past year. Not only have I started a new journey in my life but I now have goals in life and have learned a lot about myself and I'm starting to discover who I am.

I decided to join the Air Force back in September of 2007. I had a good friend Ken Ellard a retired helicopter pilot officer for the Army. He had passed away the previous month. He was like a grandpa for me. He was a big inspiration to my life and always told me that I could do anything I put my mind too. He always talked very highly of the Military and all of the great things that it had to offer. Well when he passed away he had told Rod to watch over me and make sure I did something great with my life. Rod is a special person in my life. He has been there every step of the way in my new military life. Without his help I'm not sure if I would have made it all the way.

So it's December 07, and I was in this program called "DEP" (delayed entry program) . I wasn't planned to leave for basic in May of 2008, but I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to wait that long. I was very anxious about getting started. So my recruiter put me on a Quick ship list. So first available opening I could take and go to Basic. Well I had a friend in the program who I met along the way. We both wanted to go to Basic together so we would know someone. Well she was leaving in February to go and I still hadn't heard a word when I was going.

Well in the mean time I was packing my things up and putting them in storage just in case I got that call. Well the morning that call finally came. It was February 12 and my recruiter Tsgt Costely told me to get my bag together that i was leaving today!! Oh my was hit with so many emotions at one time I was excited, nervous, excited and scared. But I rushed around got everything I needed to go. Rod picked me up and I was on my way to meet Tsgt Costley. So once Rod dropped me off I was on my way to Denver to sign papers and get taken out of DEP and swear back in to Active Duty. So the next day when I took the oath of enlistment I was leaving on a jet plane to head down to a little place called Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

I was really nervous about it and when I got there I was scared out of my mind. I woke up to reality real quick. It was the toughest experience in my life. I was put in many situations I had never experienced before. Most of it was just a head game the T.I's loved to mess with your mind to see if you would crack. I'm not gonna lie I cried almost everyday until the end but I made it strong. I graduated on March 28, 2008. That was a wonderful day actually the day before was great because I got to see some of my family for the 1st time! It was very exciting.

Well the next step through this exciting journey was Tech School. My school was at Sheppard AFB. Which is in Wichita Falls, Tx. So they put us on a bus early Monday morning and sent us on are way. We all slept the whole way there. Finally Sleep. When we finally got there 8 hours later are MTL's were there to meet us and tell us we are safe no more yelling and crazy people lol. They showed us around the base and let us get settled in. We of course headed right for chow. We were starving airman who finally get to sit down and eat a meal at chow and not get yelled out and take as long as we wanted too.

The only hard part about tech school was not getting any sleep at all. We were lucky on the week days if we had 4 hours of sleep, that was worse then basic. But we made up for it on the weekends. I made some really good friends in tech school. One is Sam.i.am she is my wing man for life. Her and i have the same job so we were in the same class. Diaz was also in are class. Sam.i.am is the one in civy's. She was ahead of us on the phase programs and we still had to wear are blues off base.

In tech school I was also a white rope, It meant i was like a chaplain student leader. Hint the white rope on my shoulder. Friday afternoon's were like squadron meetings like are CC would come out and talk to us and tell us to be smart over the weekend well sometimes we get to have revenge over the MTL's something like Pie in the face. Well we had this really cute MTL.
